The code snippet linked below is used to dump all the list fields to a file to enable me to recreate the list when investigating a possible bug in DFFS.

How to use the snippet

Go to the DFFS enabled list you want to copy, and change the URL from …/Lists/ExampleListName/ExampleViewName.aspx to …/Lists/
ExampleListName /NewForm.aspx.

Hit F12 to bring up the developer console and paste the code directly in the console and hit Enter.

This will download the field definition as a file that you can email to me or attach in a forum post.

The file only contains the name and description of the fields, and choices in a choice field so there should not be any compromising information in the file.

Unfortunately, if you want to use the Azure File Copy task, you're out of luck. It is not supported on Linux currently (but should be eventually). You might end up with this error:

The current operating system is not capable of running this task. That typically means the task was written for Windows only. For example, written for Windows Desktop PowerShell.

So that's that. Either I go back to a Windows agent for this/these specific tasks,

Find a user’s OneDrive for Business site URL with PowerShell

While working on an offboarding script, one of the requirements was to send an e-mail to the manager with the OneDrive for Business URL of the user that was going to get disabled. There is quite some information on the internet on how to get this with CSOM, but not a lot in how to get it with PowerShell for IT Pros like me … we prefer PowerShell cmdlets to code! While this is not available in the default SharePoint Online Module ,we can use the PnP PowerShell cmdlets to do it!

The first thing you must do is to get your credential and use the Connect-PnPOnline cmdlet to connect to your SharePoint Online Admin Center!

$cred = Get-Credential
Connect-PnPOnline -Url https://<tenant>-admin.sharepoint.com/ -Credentials $cred

You can then run the Get-PnPUserProfileProperty cmdlet to get the information about the user’s profile and select only the PersonalUrl which is the URL of that user’s OneDrive for Business!

$username = "<UserName>"
$OneDriveUrl = Get-PnPUserProfileProperty -Account $username | select PersonalUrl

That’s it! Once you know the right cmdlets to use, it’s that simple!

What To Know When Migrating Extranet Collaboration Manager (ExCM)

With SharePoint 2019 on the horizon, you may be considering upgrading. If you are using ExCM for your extranet needs, then you may wonder about the process and how involved it is. Hopefully, with the help of this guide, you will see that the ExCM migration may be the easiest part of your upgrade! If you are still leery, contact us about our migration assistance package and let us walk you through migrating ExCM.

Whether you are going to follow Microsoft’s detach/attach method for migrating, or you will be using a tool such as Metalogix or Sharegate, the process is mostly the same… there are just a few extra steps with Microsoft’s path.

The first step of your migration is to build out your new SharePoint environment. When building the new environment, you will use the same web app name, URL, database name, role and role provider, etc. Basically the same structure, just a different version of SharePoint. While you will have the same names, the content will be empty. For example; If you have an extranet at https://ift.tt/2UeElt1, the page will still exist, but there will not be any subsites or content on the site. At this point, you should be able to browse out to the root site collection and a page should load.

When you have the new version of SharePoint installed and looking like your old SharePoint environment, The next step is to install the correct version of ExCM in your new environment. Once installed, configure ExCM with the same settings as your previous version. If your new environment is using a new SQL server, name the database created during the setup Wizard the same as the old database. This way, once you have tested the installation of ExCM, you can simply delete this blank database and migrate the previous database containing all your extranet users over.

If you are not using a new SQL database, you will need to name your database something similar to the original database name (ex. Instead of ExtranetDirectory you may use ExtranetDirectory1) This way, once you have tested your new environment to ensure the install was a success, you can delete the ExtranetDirectory1 database and change your web.config file so that all references to ExtranetDirectory1 now point to ExtranetDirectory.

We have had many customers that have migrated from 2010 or 2013 to 2016 and whether they are using the detach/ attach method or a migration tool the biggest issue we have seen them run into seems to be an issue with the transfer of registration fields from the old ExCM to the new ExCM. This can be caused by having the wrong settings in the migration tool that prevent the content database from fully transferring the correct data. Whatever the reason the fix is pretty easy. After transferring the content data to your new ExCM environment you can delete the registration and then recreate it.

To help lead you in the right direction we have provided a couple of links to PremierPoint Solutions documentation on migrating from SharePoint 2010 to 2013 and SharePoint 2013 to 2016.

The primary thing to remember when migrating is to have a plan laid out and always make backups when possible.

Display the Flow button in SharePoint 2019 modern lists and libraries

One of the major advantages of setting up a hybrid SharePoint 2019 environment is that you can use the latest and greatest tools of Office 365, even for your On-Premises environment. One of those tools is Microsoft Flow, and by setting up your environment correctly, you can now have triggers and actions in Flow, on your On-Premises lists and libraries!

However, one of the things that is available in SharePoint Online, but not in SharePoint 2019 is having a button in each list and library that allows you to go to Microsoft Flow, or even create a quick Flow directly in SharePoint so you can quickly automate business processes. This can confuse users and make it difficult for them to know where to go and what tools to use. But there is hope!

One of my good friends, SharePoint MVPs and co-author of Deploying SharePoint 2019 Trevor Seward, just released a new open-source app called SharePoint 2019 Flow Extension which bridges some of the gap. As the description says, it provides a Flow button in the command bar as you can see in the screenshot below!
