Need time out from Ignite? Have a seat, grab a coffee and read all about Knut ..

The team at SPBiz felt it was time for a little bit of introspection once again (maybe its just because we are jealous of all the fun you are all having at Ignite and we are only 7 weeks away from our own event)...so we needed a little time out !

To help ease our woes, we decided to carry on with our series of interviews with SPBiz speakers. Today its one of our favourite friends, speakers and all round Norwegian good guy, Knut Relbe-Moe (MVP, MCT).

Without further ado..here's our chat with Knut.

SPBiz: Hi Knut, thanks for spending the time talking to us. So you know we are looking for honest answers to honest questions so our community and conference members get to know a bit about the real Knut Relbe-Moe.  First up......why don’t you share what you for breakfast today??

Knut: Today I had pancakes for breakfast.

SPBiz: Yum. Hope they had something nice on (our faves are syrup and bacon!) So you finish those off and obviously run to work to burn off all the calories ;o ... what keeps you occupied during the daytime in your work life - when you are not speaking at conferences that is?

Knut: Helping clients with advising on how they can use SharePoint in a better way, checking if SharePoint is configured and installed properly, and running a lot of Health checks. And of course helping the customers to migrate from one system to another system. The most interesting scenarios is either from a really old version of SharePoint to SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint Online, or from File Share to OneDrive/SharePoint, or from Lotus Notes to SharePoint.

SPBiz: So what got you into SharePoint in the first place?

Knut: Work, and then it was love at first sight just like with my wife.

SPBiz: Ahhh... : ) nothing like a bit of romance to keep you happy. If you were to give one piece of advice to someone who is thinking of following a similar path to you (in work that is...not romantically!), what would it be?

Knut: Just do it, it’s worth it. Just need to put the head down, focus, and work hard. All is possible!

SPBiz: If you could tell someone to avoid ONE thing in the world of SharePoint that could be a pain for their business what would it be?

Knut: To write too much custom code, and to change too much the out of the box SharePoint. If you are a customer, check first if someone else have created the solution you want, instead of writing it yourself, then you will also have to maintain it. Don’t forget that! Because to maintain a app that will cost you much more then to create it.

SPBiz: Who inspired you most in the SharePoint world? e.g. who do you follow most closely.

Knut: Dan Holme, for sure, and my wife that always supports me and encourage me to reach my goals. Without her I would not have been where I am today.

SPBiz: There's the wife reference again...you must be angling to buy a new car with all these compliments you are giving her !  On a serious note of course, is there a tip you would give an emerging business out there about using SharePoint? e.g. which version is easiest to set up, which is the best product/app that helps you most during your day?

Knut: That is not easy to answer this because it all depends of the customer and their need. I would say the easiest way is Office 365 and SharePoint Online, but maybe it’s not the correct path for the customer.

SPBiz: What product or app is your favourite when working with SharePoint and why?

Knut: This is a difficult question, I really like Nintex forms and Nintex Workflow, Also I like the SharePoint Forms designer, because both of this just make it so easy to create forms with a lot of value to the end user. And we all need to automate our processes so therefore I also really like the Nintex Workflow.

SPBiz: Where do you see SharePoint in the next 3 years?

Knut: Hybrid setups, and SharePoint is probably not so much the name that is used to be. I think we will see less of the SharePoint name, more products and features within SharePoint, like team site, group sites and so on. Focus on what we get, not the technology behind it.

SPBiz: Given the choice between a life in SharePoint and a job elsewhere in IT, would you choose differently?

Knut: Not in a million years… I love my work, and the community.

SPBiz:  What’s the one thing that keeps you up at night?

Knut:  SharePoint, SharePoint, SharePoint.

SPBiz: So finally, we need to take you 'out there' with one final question.  The world has changed, you are the last person on it. What the first object you would seek out to help you get by? (deep we know but hey…we said we wanted to see inside your brain a little ;)

Knut: If I’m the only person left, I truly hope robots would exists so I could talk with one… If not would be to lonely…

...and on that note, we are off to invent some robots to keep Knut company in the future.

We hope you enjoyed and learned from what Knut had to say. Until next time. Enjoy Ingite! (and please spare a thought for those of us who are hard at work and couldnt make it....go on you know it makes sense x
