#SP2015-16: Weekly Top 12

Wow! What a week.

Just when the post Ignite buzz is fading....it’s been back to full on activity in the community with some of the best ever hits on the site. The community founders wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who has joined, recommended and supports the community. The knowledge and sharing it fosters really can’t be measured so long may that continue. (I'm new here so I'm just finding out how great it is!)

Alongside that its full steam ahead towards a new community offering to co-coincide with the Collab365 event. We are trying to make this as amazing as possible right now so it’s all hands to the pumps in the background. Of course access is going to be open for everyone here and the aim is to open up even more possibilities to share, interact, learn and take your skills in new directions. Really exciting stuff!

Anyway, enough about what we have been up to....here are this week’s top 12 links from the Bloggershpere and beyond....

Retrieving User Profile Properties in a SharePoint 2013 Workflow

SharePoint 2010 Workflow includes an action called Lookup Manager of a User. This action was not included in SharePoint 2013 Workflow. The purpose of this blog post is to show how that action can be achieved in a SharePoint 2013 Workflow. To do so, we will make a call to the REST endpoint for the User Profile Service. Examples of such calls can be found in a link in the References section.

PowerShell Script to Modify List Items (Author, Editor, Created, Modified)

I recently had to prototype an event receiver that I wrote in my development environment designed to trigger on the migration of data from SharePoint 2007 to 2013 using DocAve Migrator. Since I don't have DocAve running on my laptop, I basically wrote a couple of PowerShell scripts to simulate what it does.

Disclaimer Popup in SharePoint 2010 or 2013

Having a disclaimer popup in SharePoint is something that is necessary for many businesses and their internal external web sites.  This is usually a mandate for legal requirements for tracking legal agreements.  Recently we had to add a disclaimer that upon agreement granted you access to the existing extranet site.

Info and some thoughts on Office 365 “NextGen” portals – Microsites, Boards and the Knowledge Management portal

Microsoft made some pretty big announcements at the Ignite conference I spoke at last week, which I think may change how intranets will be built in Office 365 (and maybe on-premises SharePoint too in the future?). I don’t normally try to be a “news blogger”, but for things that have a big impact on me/my team I like to make the occasional exception.
