Hope, everyone doing well there!

I am fascinated to write a series of blogs on Microsoft SharePoint 2016. Recently, Microsoft has released most awaiting RTM (Release to Manufacturing) release of SharePoint 2016. This was an important milestone for Microsoft from design, develop and test prospective to roll out SharePoint 2016 RTM as SaaS (Software as a Service).

As of now, license/subscription is not available for Microsoft SharePoint 2016. So, we can utilizing 180 days trail period of SP 2016 to install and play with it and it is available to download freely here

I’ll start this blogs series with installation of SP 2016 RTM on Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 with Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2.
So, let’s begin now
It’s very important to understand the Hardware and Software requirement with Mini roles for Microsoft SharePoint 2016 RTM at very first stage of installation. For fresh installation, we can follow below steps to install SharePoint 2016 on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2. I already wrote blogs on installation of Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 and Active Directory setup with windows domain controller so I am not going to re-write. Below are the reference link for the same

1. Step by step Installation of Windows Server 2012 R2
2. Step by step Installation of SharePoint 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2 part 2
3. Step by step installation of Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2
4. Run prerequisites for Microsoft SharePoint 2016
5. Install Microsoft SharePoint 2016 Successfully

As two steps can be accomplished using the provided URLs. I’ll cove last 3 steps in thoroughly. Let setup some more prerequisites before we jump on Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2 installation.

1.       We must run the windows updates and install all recommended updates.

2.       Create a new Service Account to installed Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2.

3.       Need to add Server’s “.Net Framework 3.5” features that is one of the important prerequisite for Microsoft SQL Server 2014 R2.

4.       Important – Install Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2 before you install Windows Domain Controller in your Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2.

 Note: - If you’re installing Microsoft SQL SERVER 2014 R2 after configuration of Windows Domain controller then you have to use NETWORK/Service windows account to setup Database engine for Database  instance.
